Quentin Marshall

Quentin Marshall, Head of Private Banking

Quentin joined Weatherbys Private Bank as Head of Private Banking in June 2015 from Coutts where he had been Head of Advisory within the investments team and deputy chairman of the Investment Strategy Committee, overseeing c. £30bn of assets. Prior to Coutts, Quentin worked for UBS for sixteen years, joining predecessor firm SG Warburg from university as an Investment Banker. During this time he spent four years advising the Republic of Indonesia during the Asian financial crisis. He also acted for some of the largest FTSE100 companies raising capital and working on mergers and acquisitions. He subsequently specialised in advising family owned companies, moving to UBS Wealth Management to help create the UBS Family Office Group.

Nicholas Ryder

Nicholas Ryder, Head of Investments

Nick is Head of Investments at Weatherbys Private Bank. He joined the bank in an executive capacity in 2011, having previously been a non-executive director for ten years. Prior to Weatherbys, Nick was a main board director of Cater Allen Holdings Plc (formerly Cater Ryder Plc), a family-owned bank, and for eighteen years was in charge of offshore banking and large client relationships. He then served as a director at the Gerrard Group in the money market division before the purchase by Old Mutual Plc. Subsequently, he became a main board director of Thornhill Holdings Ltd and more latterly a director of Cazenove Capital Management Ltd. Nick acts as a trustee for several large families and is a director of Denford Stud Ltd.

David Green

David Green, Head of Credit

David joined Weatherby Private Bank in June 2019 from C Hoare & Co where he was a Senior Credit Manager. He worked for C Hoare & Co for 19 years as a Senior Relationship Manager, heading up a Section of Relationship Managers before concentrating solely on credit. Prior to C Hoare & Co, David worked for Coutts for 13 years undertaking a variety of roles.

David Hart, Director, Client Relations

David joined Weatherbys in 1999 having previously worked for Britannia Building Society. Initially involved in the management of the operational side of the business, David has for a number of years headed up our Racing Bank division, and more recently has extended this role to manage a portfolio of clients in the Private Bank. His passion is ensuring that our clients are happy with our service, and that their expectations are not only met, but exceeded.

Stephen Cannons

Stephen Cannons, Associate Director

Stephen joined Weatherbys Private Bank in January 2010, having spent most of his professional life at Coutts & Co where he provided banking and wealth management to UK and international personal and corporate clients. Immediately prior to joining Weatherbys he was the investment advisor to a US based family and their charitable foundation. Stephen is a qualified financial planner, and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. He sits as a Member Nominated Trustee on the Board of the Weatherbys Pension and Assurance Scheme.

Phil Jackson

Phil Jackson, Associate Director

Phil is an Associate Director at Weatherbys Private Bank, having joined in 1998. He manages a portfolio of private clients from across the country, operating both within and outside of the racing industry. Prior to joining Weatherbys, Phil worked for Yorkshire Bank, latterly as part of National Australia Banking Group, for thirteen years. During this time he managed his own branch, headed an area credit function and spent two years supporting management of the Bank’s largest UK commercial clients. He is a qualified Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and is a CeMAP qualified Mortgage Advisor.

Duncan Gourlay

Duncan Gourlay, Associate Director

Duncan is an Associate Director and is responsible for the Weatherbys Private Bank Office in Edinburgh. He joined Weatherbys Private Banking in 2013 from Barclays Wealth, where he was a Private Banker. Prior to Barclays Wealth, Duncan worked for Bank of Scotland for fifteen years and at Adam and Co for five years, where he was a Senior Private Banker, looking after Private Clients and Families. Duncan holds Chartered Banker Status from the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland as well as being a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments.

Oliver Barnett

Oliver Barnett, Associate Director

Oliver Barnett joined Weatherbys Private Bank as Associate Director in July 2017. Prior to Weatherbys, Oliver worked for Signia Wealth where he was Head of Lending. He spent more than seven years at C Hoare & Co Private Bank where his team compiled and managed complex lending propositions, as well as adding significantly to the growth of the wealth management business. He also helped launch and develop the dedicated Entrepreneurs’ Team. Oliver leads a team responsible for building a book of clients focused on banking, credit and investing, as well as bringing his wider experience to help run and grow the overall Private Banking offering.

John Butters

John Butters, Chief Investment Officer

John joined Weatherbys Private Bank as Chief Investment Officer in 2016 from Aspinalls Family Office, where as Head of Investment he developed low-cost and quantitatively-driven investment portfolios for private clients and served as an adviser to families and charities. John began his career at the Sand Aire investment office, where he managed over £400 million of client portfolios including several investment funds. His book Rational Macro applies the philosophy and practices of modern science to the problem of market forecasting. John read PPE at Oxford and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. He is also a Financial Risk Manager – Certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals – and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation from CFA Institute.

Graeme Stenson

Graeme Stenson, Senior Financial Planner

Graeme joined Weatherbys Private Bank from LGT Vestra in May 2017. He has been advising private clients on tax and financial planning issues for many years. Prior to LGT Vestra, he was a Private Client Tax specialist with Kleinwort Benson for five years and director at UBS for eight years. Graeme is a Chartered Tax Adviser, Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Chartered Financial Planner and Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Suzie Batten

Suzie Batten, Chief Technology Officer

Suzie joined Weatherbys Bank in October 2016. Suzie has over 20 years of experience in delivering digital firsts for UK high street banks, firstly with Barclays & Barclaycard and more latterly with Santander. She has previously been responsible for delivering online banking, mobile banking, video conferencing/screen sharing solutions as well as fully integrated digital and mobile sales capability.

Thomas Fitzgerald O’Connor

Thomas Fitzgerald O’Connor, Senior Private Banker – Expatriate Services

Thomas is Senior Private Banker at Weatherbys. He joined in October 2006 from Allied Irish Bank where he had been a Private Banker, managing a portfolio of clients with emphasis on assisting those with resident non-domiciled status. He now leads the team providing banking, FX and mortgages to expatriate clients. Thomas is a Liveryman in The Worshipful Company of International Bankers and is Vice Chair of their Events Committee.

Justin Deacon

Aidan Faik, Senior Private Banker

Aidan is a Senior Private Banker. He joined in 2018 from C Hoare & Co, where he had been responsible for looking after a portfolio of Landed Estates. In addition to this he was also responsible for the bank’s business development strategy. Prior to this Aidan had spent 6 years at Coutts & Co. Away from banking Aidan is a keen fisherman and aviator.

Robert Ball, Senior Private Banker

Robert is a Senior Private Banker and joined Weatherbys Private Bank in 2012. Previously Robert gained extensive banking experience from his career of over twenty-five years with HSBC Group, including over fifteen years in their Private Banking Division, managing a portfolio of High Net Worth Individuals in both lending and wealth advisory roles.

Mervy Harmon

Mervyn Harmon, Private Banker

Mervyn is a Private Banker at Weatherbys and he has in excess of thirty years banking experience. He joined Weatherbys in September 2009 prior to which he worked for RBS and HBoS, undertaking both Commercial, Agricultural and Private Banking roles. Beyond banking he also spent a time in the Corporate Finance sector dealing primarily with fund raising, disposals and acquisitions in relation to small businesses.

Graeme Buchanan

Graeme Buchanan, Private Banker

Graeme is a Private Banker at Weatherbys. He joined in October 2014 from Bank of Scotland where he was a Private Banking Manager looking after the banking requirements of a portfolio of high net worth clients. This was a role he held for thirteen years. Prior to this, he worked in the Branch network of Bank of Scotland where he was the manager of a number of Branches across the Central Region of Scotland. Graeme is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and a Member of the Personal Finance Society and the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Simon Gardiner, Private Banker

Simon is a Private Banker at Weatherbys. He has been part of the London team for ten years and is responsible for managing a portfolio of clients. He is a qualified mortgage advisor and member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments. Simon also heads up the US Citizen Service at Weatherbys.

Bertie de Klee

Bertie de Klee, Private Banker

Bertie joined Weatherbys in 2012 after graduating from the University of Bristol, where he helped establish the Bristol Turf Club (horse racing society). Bertie obtained a 2.1 degree in Geography. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (IAD, Level 4 qualified), the Chartered Banker Institute, and holds a Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP, Level 3 qualified).

Penny Chamberlain

Penny Chamberlain, Private Banking Manager

Penny joined the Private Bank in January 2009, previously having worked for the International Private Bank of Investec, South Africa where she had been Head of the Administration Team for over ten years. As a member of the Private Bank team at Investec, she was instrumental in providing a diverse range of financial products and services to a niche client base in three principal markets, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia. Penny was also a project manager for the first securitisation project undertaken by Investec. Penny majored in Economics, Accountancy and Commercial Law at Pietermaritzburgh University and the University of South Africa, and is a qualified Company Secretary and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Business Management.

Keith Foster

Keith Foster, Private Banking Assistant Manager

Keith is a Private Banking Assistant Manager for Weatherbys Private Bank. He originally joined the racing arm of the Bank in 2001 after finishing his A Levels, after undertaking various administrative roles within that team he moved to the Private Bank when it was created in 2006.

Douglas Noble

Douglas Noble, Senior Adviser

Douglas was appointed as a Senior Adviser in April 2017. Based in our Edinburgh office, Douglas brings enormous banking experience and an in-depth knowledge of the Scottish business community. Douglas spent a large part of his career with Bank of Scotland where he was responsible for launching their first private banking operation. He went on to successfully launch Adam & Co’s office in Aberdeen and more recently he worked with Brown Shipley.

Sarah Willcocks

Sarah Willcocks, Senior Private Banking Executive

Sarah is a Senior Private Banking Executive at Weatherbys Private Bank and works alongside Phil Jackson. She joined Weatherbys in 2005 initially as a Bloodstock Researcher and transferred to the Bank in 2006. Prior to joining Weatherbys Sarah had five years’ experience working for a subsidiary of Britannia Building Society in Plymouth, working in various departments including Property Insurance, Britannia Flexible Mortgages and latterly Credit Control. Sarah has gained her Professional Banker Diploma and is currently working towards the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma.

Rebekah Guntrip

Rebekah Guntrip, Senior Private Banking Executive

Rebekah joined Weatherbys Private Bank in July 2014. Prior to joining Weatherbys, she spent six months working at Cerillion Technologies on the business development team. Rebekah graduated from Newcastle University in 2012, with a degree in Marketing and Management.

Katherine Andrews

Katherine Andrews, Private Banking Executive

Katherine joined Weatherbys Private Bank in April 2016 having started her career in Corporate Finance at Deutsche Bank working as an Associate in the Conflict Clearing team for Mergers & Acquisitions. Prior to joining Weatherbys Katherine spent two years in New Zealand working with horses and reporting for the Polo Times magazine. Katherine works alongside Aidan Faik.

Sarah Hawkes, Head of Customer Service

Sarah started her career in banking with TSB Bank and later with Lloyds TSB plc after their merger took place. She was on the management team of several branches, responsible for customer service delivery, before joining the team at Weatherbys Bank in 1999.

Dominic Haldane

Dominic Haldane, Head of Treasury

Dominic joined the Bank in May 2012 after a brief hiatus away from the financial markets. Previously, Dominic spent fourteen years working within the Treasury team at Alliance & Leicester Plc prior to their subsequent takeover by Santander and a further seven years within retail banking at Lloyds Bank. During his time with Alliance & Leicester Plc, Dominic occupied a number of roles including management of the foreign exchange and Euro money market books. Dominic also coordinated the introduction of a ‘repurchase program’ (Repo), which swiftly became a major contributor to the short term funding capability of the bank. He subsequently specialised in medium term assets, co-managing an investment book in excess of £10bn. Dominic holds both an ACI Dealing Certificate and ACI Diploma.
