The Hospice UK Compassionate Employers Programme gives organisations like us the skills, knowledge and resources to support employees through terminal illness, caring responsibilities and bereavement.

We joined the programme in 2022 and have since reviewed and enhanced several key policies to provide greater flexibility and support for employees. They include:

  • Flexible Working Policy – supporting employees to manage their personal and professional commitments through adaptable working arrangements.
  • Non-Sickness Absence Policy – offering additional support and time off for employees with caring responsibilities.
  • Bereavement Leave Policy – extending bereavement leave entitlements outside of direct family relations, ensuring compassionate leave is available when it’s needed most.

We’ve also made significant investments in our wellbeing strategy, ensuring our employees have access to a wide range of resources and support services, including a Compassionate Employer Members Hub and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to provide support for mental health, financial advice, and more.

We’re incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made, but we’re not stopping here. Our sights are set on achieving Gold Compassionate Employer status, continuing to build a workplace where every employee feels supported through life’s most important moments.

Carol Davies, HR Director, said: “Grief and bereavement are an inevitable and sad part of life, love and the relationships we have. Through our partnership with Compassionate Employers, Weatherbys people have the support they deserve and need.”
