Weatherbys Fraud Team impersonation scam

A small number of our clients are being contacted by fraudsters who are purporting to be from the Weatherbys Fraud Team. They are using a number of tactics to convince clients that the calls are legitimate, including spoofing the Weatherbys number to make it look as though the call is coming directly from Weatherbys.

The fraudsters have suggested to the clients they have contacted there has been fraudulent activity on their account and they will help to reverse the transaction(s). A one-time-passcode is then sent to the client’s registered mobile and the fraudster asks for it to be shared with them in order to complete the reversal. The one-time-passcode provided is actually used by the fraudster to authorise a fraudulent transaction.

Please be aware that the Weatherbys Fraud Team will not call you without arranging it through your private banking team first.

We will never:

  • Ask you to share one-time-passcodes sent via text or email
  • Ask for your passwords
  • Ask you to download anything not affiliated with Weatherbys, or follow any links other than our website
  • Pressure you into acting quickly

What to do if you receive an unexpected call
In order to remain safe, we advise that you always politely decline calls from Weatherbys colleagues you do not know or are not expecting a call from. Then contact your private banking team from another phone, if possible, and they will confirm if the call was genuine.

If you think you have been the victim of a scam, or have received a similar suspicious call, please block your card immediately using the Weatherbys Card App, or call us on +44 (0) 1933 543 600 and report it to Action Fraud on +44 (0) 300 123 2040.
