The sale of the insurance business reinforces the group’s strategic focus on simplifying its operating model and concentrating on its core strengths in banking, investment and wealth advice and asset finance.

After 13 years in partnership with Weatherbys Hamilton, both parties agreed that the future of Weatherbys Hamilton is best served with a partner whose sole focus is insurance and whose resources can help us present the best possible proposition to clients in a world where investment and scale increasingly count.

The decision to sell to Brown & Brown was made with careful consideration, guided by the strong alignment of values between the businesses, particularly the shared commitment to integrity and exceptional client service. With complementary specialisms in bloodstock and private client insurance, Brown & Brown were already well known to Weatherbys on both a personal and business level.

Roger Weatherby, Chairman, said: “We are immensely proud of all that Weatherbys Hamilton has achieved since its formation and of the talented team behind its success. This new chapter marks an exciting opportunity for the business, and we offer our warmest congratulations to Alec, Richard, and everyone at Weatherbys Hamilton as they continue to build on the strong foundations laid over the past decade. I am confident that the important relationship between Weatherbys Hamilton and Weatherbys Bank will continue to flourish”.

Charles Hamilton, Executive Chairman of Weatherbys Hamilton, added: “Weatherbys Hamilton has always been about deep relationships, specialist expertise, and doing things the right way. I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited to see the business continue to grow within Brown & Brown. Weatherbys Hamilton has always had a strong relationship with Brown & Brown and I know they’ll carry forward everything that makes this firm special.”

Weatherbys Hamilton will continue to operate under the Weatherbys brand in the short term, with plans to rebrand in due course as Brown & Brown. More importantly, clients and colleagues at Weatherbys Hamilton will not be affected by the change. There will be no changes to staff or to the person who looks after client’s insurance needs and the relationship and policies that are in place will continue uninterrupted.
