Nick’s story
“Our most recent Net Promoter Score was 84 – the highest published of any UK bank. It tells you our clients are not simply satisfied, they are advocates. They choose us because they feel understood. Weatherbys has been a family-owned business since 1770. That longevity is not accidental. It reflects careful judgement and long-term thinking and this mindset still shows up today.”
Senior Private Banker and Team Lead
Nicola’s story
“Our growth means I’ve been able to build our marketing team, play a part in the evolution of our brand and tackle exciting projects. Traveling to Andorra to check proofs is unusual, but when we were developing new Debit, Euro and US Dollar cards as part of our rebrand we were able to visit the beautiful mountain headquarters of our security printers to make sure everything was perfect.”
Head of Marketing
Caroline’s story
“I’ve had many jobs in my career at Arkle, and they’ve all involved building strong relationships. I’ve managed teams, arranged ladies’ race days for female brokers and worked in collections, supporting customers when they were at a very low ebb. Now I work with our internal teams – but I still love building connections with people I’ve never met before all across the Group.”
Operations Assurance Officer

Early careers
Whether you’re exploring the world of work for the first time, seeking hands‑on experience before graduation, or ready to begin your career in banking, our early careers pathways are designed to help you grow, develop and thrive.
Building connections is what we do – so reaching out to students from local schools aged 15-18 to give them their first taste of the world of financial services is always a pleasure. Week-long placements build confidence, broaden knowledge of banking, and showcase different careers in the Weatherbys Banking Group across multiple divisions.
Our eight-week Summer Internship invests in students who want to develop a career in people-first banking and finance. Starting with us in July, you’ll work on a diverse range of live projects and real business challenges, gaining insights into our products, services and business areas. Weekly check ins from HR and your dedicated buddy team will deliver key support, as you build your real-world experience. This can provide a springboard to a career with us, as many of our interns have gone on to secure permanent roles here – often through our Associate Private Banker programme.
This is your direct, fast-track route into qualifying as a Private Banker in two years. A unique pathway that combines professional qualifications, on-the-job development and real client exposure, this programme has a track record of transforming talented people into confident, capable Private Bankers. Designed for graduates with a strong interest in banking that puts people first, it provides the perfect blend of technical training, client interaction and portfolio experience.
Careers at Weatherbys FAQs
Weatherbys Banking Group FAQs
Not always. Some specialist roles require specific qualifications or regulated experience. Others don’t. We’ll make this clear in each advert. If a qualification is essential, we explain why and outline the minimum requirement so you can assess your suitability quickly.
Yes. At Weatherbys, we aim to create a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected and able to contribute. We encourage applications from all backgrounds, and we are committed to fair, accessible recruitment for all.
People who are curious, collaborative and comfortable taking ownership thrive here. Above all, we look for good communicators who can develop strong relationships built on trust and mutual respect. We do our best work when we listen, think independently and keep the customer at the heart of what we do. You don’t necessarily need a background in our industry to succeed. You do need a willingness to learn.
Private Banker FAQs
Private bankers at Weatherbys build long‑term, relationship‑led partnerships with clients. They manage all aspects of a client’s banking needs, including lending, investments (through IWA) and day‑to‑day transactional banking. The focus is on exceptional service, trust and holistic advice rather than product pushing.
Typically:
- Experience working with high‑net‑worth individuals
- Strong relationship‑building capability
- A consultative, client‑centric approach
- A broad understanding of lending and investments
- Comfort with business development and growing a book of clients
- High levels of professionalism and integrity
We also welcome people from adjacent backgrounds if they can demonstrate potential and alignment with our culture.
We support and encourage relevant qualifications including: CeMAP, IAD and PCIAM. Some candidates join already qualified, but many complete these once they start.
The culture is collaborative, high‑trust and client‑obsessed. Our bankers spend time getting to know clients deeply, and teamwork is strong. People readily share knowledge and support each other. The environment is professional but warm, with an emphasis on doing the right thing for clients.
Yes. Many of our strongest Private Bankers started as Associate Private Bankers. We value potential, curiosity, and attitude just as much as experience.
The private banking process typically includes:
- An initial call with Talent Acquisition
- Conversation with senior banker or team leader
- Technical or case‑based discussion (e.g., lending, client scenarios)
- For private banker roles: a business‑plan stage
- A final conversation with senior leadership
Our strongest private bankers consistently show:
- Genuine commitment to long‑term client relationships
- Comfort owning and growing a book
- Commercial awareness combined with integrity
- Strong organisational discipline
- Emotional intelligence and excellent communication
- Curiosity to keep learning across lending, investments, and market trends
No, our model is holistic. Bankers support clients across all three areas: lending, investment (in partnership with our investment and wealth advice team) and daily banking. We provide training for new joiners who are stronger in one area than another.
Very – but in a relationship‑led way, it’s about:
- Expanding networks
- Being visible in the market
- Following up on introductions
- Building long‑term trust
Some candidates find this exciting; others prefer a more traditional portfolio‑management model. We’re very transparent about expectations upfront.
Examples include:
- Building a strong internal network
- Managing a growing base of engaged clients
- Demonstrating sound judgement and attention to detail
- Increasing confidence across lending and investment conversations
- Contributing positively to team culture
- Showing curiosity, resilience, and momentum in client activity
