Speakers about the environment this year will include the lawyer James Thornton, CEO of ClientEarth. Founding member of Extinction Rebellion, Dr Gail Bradbrook, will be interviewed by climate change expert Dr Gabrielle Walker. Scientist Giulio Boccaletti will argue that scarcity of water is the biggest threat to global security.
Neurologist Siddarthan Chandran believes disruptive technologies like stem cells may provide the answer to repairing brain damage. Maxine Mackintosh believes that the data we generate as we go about our daily lives (shopping, banking, streaming and more) can be used to predict and prevent diseases. Tim Spector, Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College, London, will discuss the impact of food on our bodies and the importance of microbiomes.
David Runciman, Head of the University of Cambridge’s Department of Politics and International Studies will outline how the generation divide is at the heart of the fight over Brexit and the rise of populism around the world. Carole Cadwalladr will discuss what happens to a western democracy when a hundred years of electoral laws are disrupted by technology.
